Six time Emmy award-winning journalist Dave Malkoff takes a unique approach to storytelling.

He joined KTLA 5 in May of 2010 with the goal of telling stories that are not normally told and using unique methods for explaining complicated ideas. Dave often reports on science & technology issues. He has covered the International Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas for over a decade.

In 2010, Dave headed to Iraq to teach basic journalism to emerging Iraqi reporters and to cover the transition to democracy prior to U.S. Military withdrawl. Dave spent a month traveling around Iraq as the war came to a close. Using cutting-edge technology, Dave was live on KTLA 5 with a new war story every weeknight during "Assignment: Iraq".

Dave's career in broadcasting began in 1986, when he built his own low-power pirate radio station in the basement of his Youngstown, Ohio home. Starting in 1st grade, he started helping out at local radio stations for free, just to get experience. In 11th grade, Dave created a school TV station at the request of school leaders. WLHS-TV3 is still operating today.

In 1995, Dave moved to Columbus, Ohio where he majored in political science at The Ohio State University while simultaneously working as an associate producer for WBNS. After college, Dave worked as a reporter/photographer for WICD in Champaign, Illinois. Soon after, Dave moved on to KTNV in Las Vegas and then KRON in San Francisco.

In 2004, Dave headed into the hurricanes for CBS4 in Miami. He covered a number of major storms including Hurricane Katrina during this three years there.

Dave moved to Los Angeles in 2007 and spent three years reporting for KCBS/KCAL. While with CBS Dave covered several wildfires, earthquakes, the death of Michael Jackson and the nationwide transition from analog to digital television.

Dave is not only a reporter, he's also an Emmy Award winning documentary film producer, photographer, and editor who has created everything from local commercials, to music videos, to a cutting-edge reality show. He has also designed several web sites including DaveMalkoff.com. Dave is always searching for something new to learn to learn, whether it's how hamburgers are made to the complexity of stellar machines.
