Michaela Pereira

Ms. Pereira made her news television debut in 1993 on Canada's CHEK-TV in Victoria, B.C. as a beat reporter and host of a magazine program.

In 1998 Pereira moved from her Canadian home to co-host "Internet Tonight" on San Francisco-based cable network ZDTV. Her talent was recognized by Buena Vista's "Ebert & the Movies," and in 1999 Pereira became known as a guest host and later served as the show's internet correspondent. In 2001, as ZDTV morphed into satellite adn cable channel TechTV, Ms. Pereira was named anchor of the highly rated technology news program "TechLive".

In 2004, Michaela joined KTLA News as co-anchor of the KTLA 5 Morning News where she can be seen daily from 7:00-10:00 a.m. Her work there has earned multiple awards and recognitions, as well as guest roles on nationally televised programs such as Entourage, Everybody Hates Chris and 7th Heaven, as well as feature films like Street Kings.

Among the broadcasting recognitions she has received, Ms. Pereira has been awarded eight Emmy awards; in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009 for "Best Regularly Scheduled Daily News, KTLA Morning News"; in 2006 for "Education: When Disaster Strikes" and for outstanding live special event programming in KTLA's coverage of the 2008 and 2009 Rose Parades. She has won three Radio & TV News Association Golden Mike Awards: In 2006 for live coverage of a news story, "Urban Farm Eviction," as well as awards for the Best Daytime News Broadcast in both 2004 and 2006. Pereira was also honored with two Mark Twain Awards in 2004: "Best Live Coverage of a News Event, Hostage Standoff Mexican Consulate," and the "Best 60 Minute Broadcast: KTLA Morning News".

Beyond her broadcasting achievements, Ms. Pereira is active in several community organizations throughout California. She is a member of the board of LA's BEST Friends, an after school enrichment program; a member of the board of directors for the Long Beach Boys and Girls Club; an advisory board member of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), supporting children in foster care; and co-chair of the advisory board of Optimist Youth Home, providing services for troubled youth. Pereira is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, the Black Journalists Association of Southern California, and Alliance for Women in Media (formerly AWRT).

Ms. Pereira was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, growing up in a family of five adopted children. Her childhood was marked with diversity, as Pereira's parents and siblings do not share the same ethnic backgrounds. Michaela's background led her to be a strong advocate for the rights of children. Pereira values education and outdoor recreation. She speaks Portuguese, in addition to English, and has triumphantly returned to snowboarding following a couple of knee surgeries.
