Community Services Unlimited Inc. is hosting Earth Day South LA, a celebration of the environment and the community featuring great music, exciting workshops, activities, vendors, and art exhibits, which will take place from 11:00am - 6:00pm at Normandie Avenue Elementary School.

Earth Day South LA Events: Over a hundred artists will participate in performances of music and dance, community mural, graph art pieces, recycled art exhibit and fashion show, and art sale. "Beyond organic" local food will be showcased with recipe demonstrations, food vendors, and produce for sale. Information tables will showcase the work of Earth Day partners and community organizations. Normandie Avenue Elementary will be beautified with live graffiti art and a Community Mural, Recycled Art Exhibit, Art Sale, and Fashion Show. A Hip-Hip Poetry room will feature open mic and workshops, and a mini film festival will show films that reflect the work for a sustainable community. There will also be activities for kids and a local fruit pick.

Call for Artists and Fashionistas: Community Services Unlimited is also putting out a call for artists and fashion designers for the Recycled Art Exhibit and Fashion Show at Earth Day South LA. It is a one-day exhibit, deadline for submission is as soon as spaces for 7 fashion designers and 10 visual artists are filled. All mediums are allowed, as long as work is made from recycled materials. Submissions should be creative, reinventive, and imaginative. Acceptance will be determined by quality, variety of discipline, and appropriateness for Earth Day South LA. Submissions should include 2-5 images of sample work, complete contact information, a short biography, and indication of potential work's title, medium, size, and whether it is a sample or work in progress. Call for Earth Day Volunteers: Community Services Unlimited is asking for individual or group volunteers for the Earth Day celebration. Volunteers are needed to set up the main stage, set out vendor tables, support workshop facilitators, help with kids' activities, clean up, etc. Volunteers are required to attend an orientation the week before the event on either Tuesday, April 13 from 7:00 - 9:00pm or Thursday, April 15 from 6:00 - 8:00pm. There will be 4 volunteer shifts on Earth Day, approximately 10-15 volunteers are needed for the first shift and 30-40 volunteers are needed for each of the last three. The shifts are as follows:

1st shift: 7:00am - 11:00am, 2nd Shift: 8:00am - 12:00pm, 3rd shift: 12:00pm - 4:00pm, 4th shift: 4:00pm - 8:00pm.
