Calif. to Become Only State Without Poison Control
LOS ANGELES -- Budget cuts are about to make California the only state without emergency poison control services.

The defeat of Propositions 1A through 1E effectively puts the poison-control service on the chopping block and eliminates its funding from the state budget, officials said.

Right now, residents who call the Poison Action Line at (800) 222-1222 get immediate, free help from poison specialists.

Since its inception in 1997, the CPCS has managed over 3,000,000 cases.

Clinical pharmacists, registered nurses, physicians and poison information providers answer the phones, according to a CPCS statement.

The CPCS currently operates four sites including UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, San Francisco General Hospital in San Francisco, Children's Hospital Central California in Fresno and the UC San Diego Medical Center in San Diego.

The CPCS is encouraging people to call the governor at 916-445-2841 and voice their frustration about the shutdown.
