Two major announcements have come out today for two of the biggest wireless carriers: AT&T and Verizon.
First the Apple iPhone app store launched the Vonage Phone app today to join its cousin app Skype. This comes across as a slap in the face to Google who has an app, Google Voice, that would essentially do the same things. Google Voice has been around for a few months now and has not made it across the executive desk. Apple claims that Google Voice "has not been approved because, as submitted for review, it appears to alter the iPhone’s distinctive user experience by replacing the iPhone’s core mobile telephone functionality and Apple user interface with its own user interface for telephone calls…”
So, what does Google do now?
They move on to the biggest threat, Verizon.
Today, the two made a partnership today that they will develop groundbreaking android phones that will not be exclusive to a specific wireless carrier's app store. Thus, allowing third-party applications and therefore implying Google Voice will be available.
What's the big noise about Google Voice? Read up and you decide. Should Apple allow Google Voice for the iPhone? Is this a good move by Verizon?
