The death of a 2-year-old boy mauled by a German
shepherd mix in a military housing complex in San Diego was ruled an accident
Sunday by the county Medical Examiner's Office.The family dog attacked Aaron Carlson around 11:30 a.m. Saturday in an upstairs bedroom at a duplex at 3500 block of Lofberg Street.
Aaron and three siblings were in the room with the dog when the attack occurred.
Their mother was downstairs, police said. Their father, a serviceman, is deployed overseas.
An autopsy found that the boy died of mauling injuries to his head and neck, and that the death was accidental.
The family had owned the 1 1/2-year-old dog for about six months, police said.
The dog, which was turned over to animal control officers, was euthanized.
