Simon, the one-eyed kitten |
SAN DIEGO—
A kitten that scratched his own eye out has been nursed back to health and is ready for adoption at a North County animal shelter. The kitten was found on May 16 with its mother and the other kittens in its litter, but it was the only one still alive, according to John Van Zante with the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
After workers at the center examined the kitten, they determined that he had probably scratched out his eye because it was infected.
"At first they considered putting him down because there was nobody to care for him after the surgery," Van Zante said. "Fortunately one of our HWAC foster care volunteers could take him."
The kitten was named Simon by workers at the center. He is a bit more than 2 months old now and has been nursed back to health, Van Zante said. On Thursday, he will be available for adoption.
