SYLMAR, Calif. (KTLA) -- Two men died Tuesday afternoon after the car they rode in smashed into a tree in Sun Valley, according to fire officials.

The car smashed into the tree about 4:30 p.m. in the 14400 block of North San Fernando Road, leaving both men trapped inside. They were pronounced dead at the scene, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said.

Police closed San Fernando Road in both directions between Sepulveda and Balboa boulevards as emergency crews cleaned up the wreckage.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no other injuries were reported. The identities of the men have not yet been released.

Fire officials have not yet said what caused the crash.
