LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KTLA) -- A three-car wreck Tuesday night on the 405 Freeway left one person dead, California Highway Patrol officials said.

One person has been confirmed dead at the scene, CHP officials said.

Los Angeles city fire officials said no one else was injured in the crash and no one was taken to hospitals for treatment.

CHP officers closed most of the southbound 405 Freeway, only leaving the southbound carpool lane open to motorists.

The lane closures resulted in a traffic nightmare, with cars inching along for miles behind the wreck.

Northbound lanes were not closed, but traffic slowed significantly.

CHP officials expected the southbound lanes to remain closed for several hours.
