Yanira Lozano
VAN NUYS-- A homeless woman and her boyfriend were arrested Saturday for abusing the woman's son after trying to give up custody of the boy with forged papers.
Yanira Lozano, 24, and Florentino Robert Rodriguez, 28, were wanted by police for questioning in connections to recent injuries to Lozano's 6-year old son.
The couple was reportedly living in a van with her younger 2-year old son, though Lozano, her younger son, and the van were reported missing.
The injuries to the 6-year old son were reported last week when Lozano and her son went to visit Lozano's mother, whom the 6-year old had never met due to Lozano's estrangement from her mother, said Lt. Vince Neglia of the Los Angeles Police Department's Juvenile Division.
Lozano left the boy with his maternal grandmother, who noticed several injuries on her grandsons body. The unexplained injuries seemed to have been inflicted recently, though they weren't severe.
"They were injuries that could be consistent with child abuse," said Lt. Neglia
The next day, Lozano's boyfriend, Florentino Robert Rodriguez showed up at Lozano's mother's home with unofficial makeshift custody documents for the 6-year old, indicating they wanted to shift custody of the boy to Lozano's mother.
According to Lt. Neglia, the boy has been released to relatives and is doing well.
Lozano and Rodriguez have recently been living out of a Ford Windstar van on the streets of the North Hills area with Lozano's 2-year old son.
Officials say Lozano has a record of forgery charges and that there is also evidence the couple tried to give up custody of the 6-year old in the past.
It is unclear whether Rodriguez is the biological father of Lozano's two children.
