LOS ANGELES -- Adam Lambert's racy American Music Awards performance has cost him an appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America."
ABC canceled Lambert's scheduled performance for Wednesday because the network didn't think it would be appropriate for a morning audience.
CBS quickly announced Tuesday that the American Idol runner-up would appear on "The Early Show" Wednesday morning both to perform and discuss the reaction to Sunday's appearance.
The openly-gay performer shared a man-on-man kiss with a band member on Sunday while performing his new single, "For Your Entertainment."
ABC also had to quickly cut to an audience shot when Lambert had a male dancer simulate oral sex on him.
The network said more than 1,500 people complained, what it termed a "moderate" response, and the Parents Television Council also said it had heard from upset members.
"They're outraged," said Timothy Winters, president of the Parents Television Council. "They just can't believe the nature of the content, the explicit nature, and how much graphic content there was."
ABC spokeswoman Hope Hartman and Lynda Dorf, a representative of Dick Clark Productions, which put on the show, did not comment on how producers and network executives felt about the performance. Dorf noted that Lambert had not kissed any of his fellow performers during rehearsals of the song.
When asked how he would feel if the performance was edited for West Coast viewers, Lambert told Pop & Hiss he would not be happy.
"If it's gonna be edited, then in a way that's discrimination. I don't mean to get political, but Madonna, Britney and Christina weren't edited," Lambert said. "It's a shame. Female entertainers have been risqué for years. Honestly, there's a huge double standard."
Lambert said the kiss happened in the moment.
Another buzz-worthy topic of the night at the AMAs included a tumble by Jennifer Lopez, who landed on her bottom after jumping from a dancer's back during her performance. The fall was edited out of the West Coast broadcast.
In a minor upset, Lady Gaga lost the award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year to Gloriana. Fans voted via cellphone, and many thought Lady Gaga would win the category.
Country music star Taylor Swift won five awards, including Artist of the Year -- the only award Michael Jackson did not win posthumously. The late King of Pop made history by winning four posthumous awards.
