NEWPORT BEACH -- Officials have canceled an amber alert after an abducted 4 year old and her non-custodial mother were found.
At about 2:45 p.m. Saturday, 34 year old Angela Aiton was taken into custody for kidnapping her daughter, 4 year old Symphony Aiten around 6:35 p.m. Friday, according to Lieutenant Craig Fox of the Newport Police Department.
The arrest came after a citizen who spotted the Amber Alert and recognized Aiton's vehicle reported her to the LAPD, Fox said.
Angela Aiton is expected to be returned to Orange County where she will face criminal charges. 4-year-old Symphony Aiton, who was found in good health and unharmed, will likely be returned to her foster parents
The statewide Amber Alert was issued Friday night.
Orange County Sheriff's investigators say Symphony Aiton was taken by her mother, Angela Aiton, during a court-ordered supervised visit on Friday afternoon at a restaurant in Fashion Island.
Authorities said Aiton asked the child's foster father if she could take the girl to the restroom. When she didn't return after about 10 minutes, the foster father notified the Newport Beach Police Department.
An extensive area search was conducted before authorities issued the Amber Alert.
According to Orange County Sheriff's officials, Angela Aiton was detained in Costa Mesa in March of this year for a mental health evaluation and Symphony Aiton was taken into protective custody. The child has been in foster care since then.
