ATHENS -- A police pursuit Wednesday morning ended in a multi-vehicle crash in the Athens area that left a pedestrian injured and two suspects on the loose.
Hawthorne police began pursuing a black Nissan sedan that was reportedly carjacked in Downey a few days ago.
The two suspects led police on a chase along the 105 Freeway and exited at Vermont Ave., where the crash occurred sometime before 8:20 a.m.
A pedestrian was struck by the suspects' vehicle and was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The two men jumped out of the Nissan and fled on foot, police said.
Witnesses reported seeing at least one man ditching a jacket in an effort to conceal his identity.
Lt. Michael Ishii of the Hawthorne Police Department said at least one of the suspects was involved in an armed robbery around 8 a.m. at an Auto Zone on Imperial Highway in Inglewood.
