LOS ANGELES -- An autopsy was pending Monday on a woman whose burning body was found in an alley in the unincorporated South Los Angeles community of Athens Village, police said.
Someone reported a fire in an alley near the 200 block of West 126th Street around 8 p.m. Saturday.
Firefighters put out the fire and discovered the body, according to Detective Dave Dolson.
The body was burned beyond recognition.
The body was turned over to coroner's investigators, who will try to determine the woman's identity and the cause of death.
An investigation was also underway Monday into the death of a man whose body was found inside a burned-out shack in a field near the Harbor (110) Freeway and 190th Street, close to the Los Angeles-Carson border.
The fire was reported to the California Highway Patrol about 10:20 a.m. Sunday, and Los Angeles County firefighters were called to the scene.
The flames were put out within about 20 minutes, and the man's body was found inside the ruins of the shack.
The man's name was withheld pending family notification, according to the coroner's office.
