BELL, Calif. -- Police say the mother of a 14-year-old girl missing since last week says the teenager has been found unharmed.
Monica Valenzuela was brought to the Bell police station Friday by her mother a day after authorities publicized her disappearance.
Capt. Anthony Miranda says the girl is "well and safe."
Monica's mother told police she dropped her daughter off at school last Thursday morning, but when she didn't come home that afternoon, her parents became concerned.
The family passed out fliers around the neighborhood with Monica's photo.
Maurice Dubois, who lost his 14-year-old daughter Amber at the hands of confessed serial rapist and murder, John Gardner, also assisted family members in the search.
Now, police say the girl had run away because of family issues and had been staying with a friend in Cudahy, telling the friend's mother that she was on vacation.
Authorities said Monica ran away from home once in February.
