BELL, Calif. (KTLA) -- Disgraced former Bell city manager Robert Rizzo is suing the city, claiming he is owed $1.5 million in unpaid salary.
Rizzo, who once earned some $800,000 a year, is currently awaiting trial on several public corruption-related charges.
He and several other former city leaders are accused of bilking the small working class city out of millions through inflated salaries and other benefits.
But Rizzo has now brought suit against the city, claiming they violated his contract when they stopped paying him last year.
According to court documents, Rizzo has not been paid since July 2010, when the Bell corruption scandal erupted.
Rizzo says he is owed his salary and benefits, with interest, because he has not been convicted of a felony and he never resigned from his position.
Bell's Mayor, Ali Saleh, says he hopes the lawsuit will be thrown out, and Rizzo will be convicted of the charges against him.
