CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- A Chatsworth-based company has found big business in big toilet seats.
Big John Toilet Seat & Support caters to the larger crowd, offering toilet seats that are 19 inches wide and 2 inches taller than the standard seat, which measures 14 inches wide.
With 72 million overweight Americans, the company says there's definitely a market for their product.
"Our business this year is up about 60 percent over last year and last year we were up 50 percent over the year before," Scott Kramer, owner of Big John Toilet Seat & Support, told KTLA.
Kramer says their motto is: "Your butt's not too big, your seat's too small."
Overweight people are often uncomfortable on standard-sized toilet seats, and can even end up breaking them. "Big John" seats fit on all standard toilets and have a weight capacity of 1,200 pounds.
Kramer says he came up with the idea after realizing that the toilet seat hasn't changed in over a hundred years.
The company has been in business for five years. The larger seats can cost anywhere from $107 to $170, depending on where you shop.
