GARDEN GROVE- A local restaurant has set the record for the world's largest bowl of spaghetti with a swimming pool filled with more than 13,780 pounds of pasta.

After working all week to prepare the 13780 pounds of noodles and 120 gallons of sauce, Buca di Beppo cooks and servers mixed the food together in an above-ground swimming pool repurposed as a pasta bowl.

The Garden Grove Bucca di Beppo now holds the Guinness World record, beating out the former record of 9,767 pounds set by Watniya Restaurants-Sbarro on March 28, 2009.

The restaurant chain will be celebrating its record-breaking pasta by giving away free spaghetti Monday March 15th in its restaurants nationwide. Diners who order a pasta entrée will receive a 14-ounce bowl of spaghetti served with a choice of either meat or marinara sauce.

According to company officials, the record breaking bowl of pasta won't be wasted, but donated to a local agricultural community to be used as animal feed.
