Guillermo Bermudez and Christina Amber Bailey (Orange County Sheriff's Department) |
STANTON -- Two people have been arrested for allegedly stealing a purse from a 7-year-old boy.
Jose Bermudez, 29, and his girlfriend Christina Bailey, 19, were taken into police custody on Thursday at about 5 p.m.
Investigators believe the pair are driving a two-door 1990 Honda Civic with a plate number of 3TRG966.
It happened Saturday at a post office in the 10400 block of Beach Boulevard, Orange County Sheriff's Department officials said.
A woman reported that she was in a hurry to the post office, so she left her son in the car with her purse while she hurried to complete her errand.
When the woman returned, she said she saw a man trying to pull the purse away from her son.
The man eventually won the struggle, tearing the purse away form the child and tossing it to a woman in the passenger seat of a nearby sedan, authorities said.
The man then reportedly hopped into the driver's seat and took off, nearly hitting the mother.
Documents show Bermudez has a long criminal past, including possession of a deadly weapon and numerous burglary convictions.
Bailey pled guilty to carrying a switch blade and knives, and both suspects have narcotics-related convictions.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the OC Sheriff's Department at 714-647-7000.
