Power outage sparks an overnight riot at UW (April 6, 2010) |
SEATTLE -- A large unruly crowd of University of Washington students attacked police late Monday night.
It started after a power outage darkened the streets along Greek Row, north of the UW campus.
Police say the incident started at about 11:30pm. When police arrived, they found hundreds of students near a bonfire. Students burned furniture in the middle of an intersection.
When police told the crowd to leave, the students stayed put and started attacking police by throwing bottles and cans at them.
One officer was hit on a helmet and another was hit on the chest. Neither were injured.
The crowd began to disperse two hours later.
Police made no arrests and no injuries have been reported.
