CASTAIC -- A suspicious fire that charred some 75 acres and forced the closure of northbound Interstate 5 near Castaic is fully contained.
The fire was reported in the Angeles National Forest just before 5:00 p.m. Wednesday in an area just east of the Golden State (5) Freeway, said Inspector Steve Zermeno of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Investigators say the fire started in three different locations near the freeway.
No structures were threatened.
Some 200 fire crews, aided by six helicopters, fought the flames.
The California Highway Patrol closed all lanes of northbound Interstate 5 for more than an hour because of smoke from the fire.
The blaze was fully surrounded around midnight Wednesday, officials said.
Zermeno said a witness told CHP that they saw two men with long hair in a green Saturn at the scene and they might have started the fires.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
