LOS ANGELES -- Contrary to what the wireless industry has been telling consumers for years, a new study suggests that cell phones may be more dangeroust than you think when it comes to developing brain tumors.
A group called the International EMF Collaborative recently issued a report titled, "Cellphones and Brain Tumors: 15 Reasons for Concern."
The group says latest research indicates that regular use of cell phones can result in a "significant" risk of brain tumors.
The study also claims kids are at greater risk because their brain cells, not yet fully developed, are more vulnerable to electromagnetic radiation.
Several studies have noted a higher risk of brain tumors for people who use a cellphone for at least 10 years and who typically hold the device on the same side of their head, according to lead author of the report, Lloyd Morgan.
Morgan says that finding alone indicate cell phones are causing brain tumors.
Criitcs say more time is needed to determine whether the claims are true.
