INGLEWOOD-- Two young children were found abandoned in an apartment complex Saturday, and after a day, police say they have found their mother.

After the children's pictures were aired on television, family members recognized them and called authorities, police said. Now officers say they have made contact with the children's mother and are investigating the matter.

At around 5:00 p.m. Saturday, a woman walked into the courtyard of an apartment complex at 308 West Queens Boulevard with a 3-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl, according to Officer Osorio of the Inglewood Police Department

The woman nervously spoke to a resident of the complex, asking if they had seen the boy's father, to which the resident replied negatively, witnesses told officers

According to Osorio, the woman then walked the children to the pool, then walked away from the complex. Witnesses say the children cried for her, but were told by the woman to stay behind.

The woman then got into an unknown gold or tan car without license plates and drove away, a resident told police detectives.

Another resident who was having a party at the complex took the children in and fed them dinner, thinking they would be picked up eventually. After two hours of waiting, they called the police.

After officers arrived, they took the children door to door through the entire complex and neighboring buildings to see if anyone knew them.

None of the residents recognized the children, Osorio said.

Police believe the children, who identified themselves as Kayshawn and Kimberly Denver, are brother and sister

Clean clothes were found in the backpack being carried by the girl.

The Inglewood Police Department is asking anyone who recognizes the children or has any information on the incident to call (310)-412-5211.
