LOS ANGELES -- R&B singer Chris Brown is "doing really, really well" fulfilling the terms of his probation related to last year's assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna, according to a judge.
During a brief court appearance Thursday, Brown, 20, listened silently as Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg went over papers sent from authorities in Brown's native Virginia.
Schnegg said Brown has attended 17 out of his required 52 domestic violence counseling sessions and completed 32 of his required 180 days of community labor.
Brown is due back in court May 11 for another progress report hearing.
Brown pleaded guilty on June 22, 2009, admitting he attacked his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, after a pre-Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.
The assault occurred during an argument that began around 12:30 a.m. Feb. 8, 2009 while the pair were in a rented Lamborghini in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles.
Brown was sentenced on Aug. 25 to five years probation and 180 days of community labor.
A second felony count -- criminal threats -- was dismissed as a result of Brown's guilty plea.
At his sentencing, the judge agreed that Brown could perform the required community labor -- highway cleanup, litter removal or other such work -- in Virginia, where he lives.
He was also ordered to complete a 52-week domestic violence counseling program, which the judge said he could complete in his home state as well.
Brown must also stay 100 yards away from Rihanna, unless they are both at an entertainment-related event, in which case he must stay 10 yards away.
The judge warned Brown he could serve time behind bars if he violated any term of probation.
Since his guilty plea, Brown issued a videotaped apology posted on his Web site in which he told his fans his conduct had been "inexcusable."
He said he was "truly, truly sorry" that he wasn't able to handle the situation differently.
Brown also said he has apologized to Rihanna.

This man deserves prison time for beating another person. I see these abusers stick together "Mr.One Sided Justice"

I think she started it, why would he be "mad" that someone sent him a text? She is crazy and everyone wants to defend her because she is a woman. Look at all the crazy things women are doing these days. Not so innocent!

men who beat on their women often decieve others into believing that the victim was at fault for their crime, i feel this issue is serious for women all around the world we deserve better treatment and this type of behavior should NEVER be excepted crimes against women suck!
