SAN DIEGO -- San Diego's most popular convention could be relocating.
There are reports that Comic-Con International could be leaving its birthplace for a larger home once the contract between the San Diego Convention Center and the organizers of the convention expires in 2012.
Losing Comic-Con means the city would also lose out on 126,000 attendees, who fill hotel rooms and boost the bottom line of restaurants, bars and local attractions.
The San Diego Convention Center Corp. recently sent a proposal to Comic-Con seeking to extend its contract through 2015.
But competition for Comic-Con is growing.
Other cities, including Los Angeles, Anaheim and Las Vegas, have come courting in recent years.
Comic-ConÂ’s internal surveys have found that attendees spend $60 million on lodging, food and transportation during the four days.
