Robert Allan Lehmann (OCDA) |
COSTA MESA (KTLA) -- Prosecutors are describing the child custody related murders of a woman and her father as a calculated "execution."
Robert Allen Lehmann, 36, is charged with two felony counts of special circumstances murder with sentencing enhancements of using a deadly weapon, multiple murders and lying in wait, according to a statement released by the District Attorney's office.
Lehmann is accused in the shooting deaths of his ex-wife, Emily Ford, 32, and her father, Russell Ford, 62 outside his home in the 3400 block of Santa Clara Circle.
Authorities say the Fords had driven to the home to pick up the couple's 7-year old daughter.
"Shortly before the victims' arrival to pick up the 7-year-old girl, Lehmann is accused of sending the child out of the home with his current wife for ice cream and arming himself with a firearm to wait for the victims," prosecutors said in a statement.
When the pair arrived at the house, Ford allegedly shot at the victims, officials said: "Emily and Russell Ford attempted to turn and run away, and Lehmann is accused of pursuing them outside and continuing to shoot. Both victims were shot several times in the back and fell to the ground."
According to the statement, "As Emily Ford and Russell Ford lay bleeding on the ground, Lehmann is accused of reloading his firearm and executing the victims by shooting them repeatedly in the back and back of the head."
The shooting took place just hours after Lehmann failed to show up for a custody hearing in family court Tuesday.
Ford had requested a restraining order back in 2004, stating Lehmann had "an inability to control his temper," and that she feared for her safety.
Lehmann called police to report the shooting.
He was taken into custody at the home.
Ford's 3-month old son with her new husband was found unharmed in her car.
Emily Ford worked as a special-education aide for the Newport-Mesa School District.
"Our entire Newport-Mesa school community has been touched by Emily's loss and she will be deeply missed," read a statement issued by the district.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Emily's family during this very difficult and sad time."
According to school officials, Emily Ford was employed with the Newport-Mesa District since 2007, where she worked at Paularino School, Andersen, and Mariners elementary schools.
She also worked at Sonora and Harper pre-schools.
