The so-called "Doom and Gloom" bandit

THOUSAND OAKS -- Authorities are searching for an apparently remorseful bank robber.

The man, dubbed the 'Doom and Gloom' bandit walked into the Santa Barbara Bank & Trust on Westlake Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. Monday, claiming he was a former employee and that the company owed him money, police said.

He handed the teller a note with his written demands. There were about 15 people inside the bank at the time.

The suspect, who did not display a weapon, left the bank crying with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

FBI agents say the suspect tells tellers that the robbery is "no joke" and threatens to kill victims.

He also claims that an illness is spreading through is body.

He has been described by victims as a desperate, claiming that he is a former employee and that the bank owed him money.

No one was injured during the heist.

The suspect was last seen running toward a nearby Ralph's supermarket.

Witnesses described the suspect as a white man in his 50's, approximately 5'8" and weighing approximately 170 lbs. He had short brown hair and wore thick prescription glasses.

He was also wearing a brown coat, blue jeans, and white athletic shoes.

Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 reward for information which leads to the arrest and criminal complaint in the case.
