BUCYRUS, Kan. -- Authorities shut down a Johnson County daycare after the owner admitted using a riding crop to discipline children.
The Shirley Joyce McClellan Day Care Home is located just south of Stilwell.
The Johnson County Health Department and the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services made the decision after investigating a complaint that Sherley McClellan and a resident of the day care home was using the riding crop on children.
The emergency suspension order says that McClellan admitted to using the riding crop and that she had "swatted children with her hand and threatens them with getting a stick as a form of punishment."
McClellan's day care license was suspended effective immediately and remains in effect until an order rescinding the suspension is issued.
McClellan had been licensed by the state since December 1995.
