LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. has launch both and internal and criminal investigations into a Christmas party brawl that reportedly involved nearly two dozen deputies.
L.A. Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore tells KTLA that both Internal Affairs and Internal Criminal Affairs is looking into what witnesses have called a "violent, alcohol-fuel fight."
The brawl happened on Friday, Dec 10 around 11:30 p.m. outside the Quiet Cannon Banquet Hall in Montebello.
Whitmore says the party was being held for deputies who work at the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles.
Some witnesses say the fight was among jail employees who are part of a non-official deputy group called "3000 Boys."
Montebello police were called to the restaurant to stop the fight. However, no one was arrested.
Witmore says his initial information is that none of the injured deputies was hospitalized, however some of those injured in the brawl sought medical treatment with their own doctors or on their own at an urgent care facility.
According to a Montebello police spokesman on Tuesday, two individuals appeared at Montebello police headquarters identifying themselves as sheriff's deputies and "victims."
A report was made and turned over to the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. which is handling the investigation.
Seven deputies who were allegedly involved in the brawl have been placed on administrative leave.
According to Witmore, the investigation into the matter could take as long as two weeks.
"At the end of the day, we could have felony charges filed against several individuals."
