LAFOURCHE, LA -- A sheriff's deputy is in custody charged with the aggravated rape of a six year old child.
David Lewellen, 33, was arrested Tuesday evening following an investigation.
That investigation began Friday when the child reported the sexual abuse to a teacher at school.
Lewellen was fired from the sheriff's office after he was arrested.
He has been charged with aggravated rape.
If convicted, Lewellen faces life in prison.
