Aslin, recovering after surgery, took multiple bullets during a home-invasion robbery.
HOLLYWOOD HILLS -- The former housekeeper of a man who, along with his dog, was shot and wounded during a home invasion, is one of four people charged with attempted murder and other counts, police said.
Elizabeth Hernandez pleaded not guilty to the charges Friday, as did her co-defendants Phillip Pandy, Jerry Dean Cunningham ad Uriel Saloman Miranda.
Prosecutors allege Pandy and Cunningham entered the home in the 8200 block of Mannix Drive early Wednesday morning, shot the victim and his dog and then fled with more than $60,000.
Hernandez and Miranda allegedly stayed in the car and acted as a lookout.
The victim and his dog are still recovering from their injuries.
And the family says they have the dog, a five year old boxer mix named Aslan, to thank for their lives.
Aslan took the brunt of the bullets fired by the alleged intruders during a confrontation.
The dog was shot in his ear, both front legs and through the middle of his body.
Aslan is lucky to be alive, said the Glendale veterinarian who performed emergency surgery on the dog. Aslan isn't out of the woods yet, and will have to undergo more surgeries to fully repair his injuries.
The man was treated at a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the neck and released, authorities said.
A number of witnesses called 911 and said they heard several gunshots, then saw a white Dodge Charger leaving the scene.
Officers arriving at the scene spotted a car matching the description and chased it until the car crashed near Pico Boulevard and Hauser Avenue.
The suspects fled on foot, scattering cash as they went.
LAPD's Wilshire area patrol, Metropolitan Division and K-9 units were called in to search for the four suspects, who were taken into custody without incident, the LAPD said.
Police recovered evidence at the scene and were searching for the suspects' weapons.
The family said the female that was arrested was their former maid, and they fired her several months ago because they thought she was stealing from them.
Narcotics officers were at the home late Wednesday, but it remained unclear why.
They would only say that none of the family members was home Wednesday night, and the man of the house was at the police station.
