ANZA -- Animal Control officers seized 21 dogs from the property of a 61 year old man in Anza, and the man was then arrested, according to the Department of Animal Services.
David Alan Maguire, 61, was taken into custody at 9:30 a.m. Friday on suspicion of violating parole.
Authorities took 21 dogs from his property, two of which appeared to be in need of medical care, said John Welsh, public information chief for the Department of Animal Services.
The dogs were being examined by agency veterinarians.
Maguire may be charged with animal cruelty if it's determined that the dogs were neglected.
Maguire has been cited several times for not having a kennel permit.
In Riverside County, it's illegal to own more than four dogs without a kennel permit.
If Maguire pays impound fees, he could reclaim the dogs, Welsh said. But it is also possible that the animals could be put up for adoption.
Maguire was being held on $25,000 bail at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.
