LANCASTER (KTLA) -- Authorities in Lancaster are asking for public help to find a the gunmen who opened fire at a party, killing a 14-year-old girl and wounding six others.
Dominique Peatry died of her wounds after shots rang out around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 5th at the home in the 44600 block of Sixth Street East near Nugent Street.
Forty people had gathered at the home for a party.
"People were running all around over the place and yelling somebody got shot, somebody got shot," neighbor Carmen Montoya told KTLA.
Witnesses say chaos erupted after the shots were fired with everyone inside the home diving for cover.
Others spilled out into the streets and hid in the backyards of neighbors.
Bullet casings and shattered glass were found over the entire block.
The windshields of several cars were shot out.
Neighbors told KTLA the gunmen literally sprayed the area with bullets.
"I heard shots from everywhere -- maybe anywhere from 15-25 shots," Steven Nickols said.
Detectives say the physical evidence at the scene indicates there was more than one gun involved.
"We're looking for at least one male who appeared to have been in the company of two or three others when he arrived," homicide detective Lt. Patrick Nelson told KTLA.
Detectives believe some sort of gang dispute led to the shooting.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
