EL MONTE (KTLA) -- Area police discovered nearly 5,000 marijuana plants while investigating a reported burglary in progress and are calling it the biggest drug bust in the city's history.
El Monte police were called to the 2500 block of Continental Avenue to investigate a report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, authorities detained five individuals in a U-Haul Truck. Amidst questioning the detainees, one alerted them to a grow operation.
Police sought a search warrant before making entry into the specified warehouse, where they discovered the grow operation, which was estimated to be worth over $1 million.
The alleged suspect said he broke into the warehouse his family owned because he wasn't getting his share of the proceeds.
An investigation is ongoing.
