EL MONTE -- Neighbors tipped off police to an indoor pot farm at a rented El Monte home where more than 700 plants were discovered, with an estimated street value of about $1 million.

The raid happened at about 4 p.m. in the 10900 block of Basye Street, near Santa Anita Avenue, according to Ralph Batres of the El Monte Police Department.

Authorities arrested 33-year-old Alexander McCoy, of San Marino, on suspicion of marijuana cultivation.

He is being held on $50,000 bail, and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in El Monte Superior Court.

The bust was the result of suspicious activity neighbors observed at the home, with lots of people coming and going late at night, Batres said. Windows were blacked out and people thought something strange was going on inside the home.

Police say the plnats were found in various stages maturity.

The homeowner apparently didn't know the house was being used as an indoor pot growing operation, according to detectives.
