LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- A 44-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of pushing an 84-year-old woman onto the tracks at the Metro station in Little Tokyo, killing her.
Detectives say Betty Sugiyama was standing on the platform at the Gold Line station on Sunday morning when another woman, a stranger, pushed her off.
Sugiyama's sister witnessed the incident.
"To see her so alive one minute and then you see her lying there with blood all over, it's quite a shock," Mary Sugiyama told KTLA.
Betty Sugiyama was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died Sunday night.
44-year old Jackkqueline Pogue was arrested on the platform a short time later.
She was expected to be charged with murder, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
A motive was still unclear, as homicide detectives continued their investigation.
Witnesses told police that the incident appeared to be unprovoked.
Pogue was being held at the Century Regional Detention Facility of the Los Angeles County Jail.
Her bail was set at $1 million.
