LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- Father Maurice Chase, known as "Father Dollar Bill," has died.

Father Chase passed away Sunday November 20th, at his home in Los Angeles, family members tell KTLA.

He is survived by his two sister, Mary Donaldson and Majel Prindiville, as well as 14 nieces and nephews.

Family members say Father Chase was battling cancer.

He will be buried in his hometown of Dinuba, Calif. in Tulare County.

Father Chase was well-known for his holiday tradition of handing out thousands of dollars to the homeless and needy on Skid Row.

Last Thanksgiving, Father Chase distributed $15,000 -- mostly in singles -- to grateful recipients outside the Salvation Army Mission at 5th Street and Sanford Street in downtown Los Angeles.

Some of the most needy were given $20 bills and even $100 bills.

Father Chase, a Catholic priest has worked with the Skid Row Charity Fund, handing out cash every Thanksgiving for some 32 years.
