LOS ANGELES -- A fisherman was rescued after he was swept to see early Saturday.
The fisherman was plucked from a communications buoy off Dockweiler State Beach about 2:30 a.m., authorities said.
He had apparently been collecting bait from one of the jetties that connects Marina Del Rey with the Pacific ocean when he was swept to sea amid high surf. The victim had been wearing a wetsuit and was possibly wading in water when he became seaborne.
"He and his family were fishing at the end of the jetty," Los Angeles County fire dispatcher Ed Pickett said. "He was wearing a wetsuit, and we gather he was in the water gathering mussels for bait and the current took him out."
Ocean temperatures have been relatively warm for this time of year -- in the low 60s, but waves were expected to reach as high as 8 feet as a winter storm hit Southern California.
