Robert Casteel and his 10-year-old son, Christopher (The Press-Enterprise ) |
A judge has granted a temporary order requiring the classmate to stay at least 20 feet away from Robert Casteel's 10-year-old son, Christopher.
The school district and the classmate -- whose name has not been released -- were served with the order on Tuesday.
Casteel says his son told him on Jan. 11 that the boy had pulled out a knife in class that morning and threatened to hurt him after school.
Casteel claims he called the school's principal, but was told she was on a conference call.
That's when he decided to call the police, who located the boy and confiscated a small pocket knife from him.
The boy was suspended for five days.
Casteel kept his son home until he obtained the restraining order.
He says his son was "terrified" and he thinks the school's response was not sufficient.
A judge will review the case on Feb. 8 to decide whether to make the restraining order permanent.
