Alain Salas (KTLA-TV) |
LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- A teacher's aide from Fremont High School has been charged with four felony sex-related counts.
Alain Salas, 40, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Compton Superior Court.
He faces three counts of lewd acts on a child and one count of contact with a minor for a sexual offense.
Salas worked as a teacher's aide at Fremont High School in South Los Angeles. He also worked as a girls' volleyball coach at the school.
He was arrested on Monday by the FBI's SAFE Team (Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement).
A law enforcement source told the Los Angeles Times that Salas allegedly made contact with a student both on the Internet and in person with the intent of committing a sexual offense.
Salas is the fourth or fifth LAUSD employee to be arrested in the last several weeks for alleged lewd acts on children, and that has many parents concerned.
Two teachers were recently arrested for alleged sex crimes involving children at nearby Miramonte Elementary School.
LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy told KTLA that when his administration learns about alleged misconduct, it will take action.
"We have well over 100,000 full-time and part-time employees" Deasy said. "They drive buses, they prepare food, they teach, they lead."
"Some people will make bad choices, and when we know about that, we respond to it."
