STUDIO CITY -- 17 members of a South Los Angeles gang were arrested during an early morning raid at the Platinum Live nightclub where they were attending a private party, authorities said.

Officers went to the club at 11345 Ventura Boulevard about 1:30 a.m. after learning about the party, according to Richard French of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Nine gang members of the Rollin' 60's Neighborhood Crips gang were arrested for parole violations. Five others were arrested for probation violations and three for outstanding warrants, French said.

LAPD Sgt. Dan Horan says that the arrests were part of an ongoing anti-gang effort by police. "There is no safe haven (for gangs) anywhere in the city of Los Angeles," Horan told KTLA.

"We received information that members of a South Los Angeles gang were having a party, and officers positioned themselves and identified several members entering the club," according to French.

Gang unit officers from the 77th Division and North Hollywood Division entered the club and detected the "strong odor of marijuana" and arrested the gang members they identified as being in violation of restrictions, police said.

Not everyone inside the club were gang members. An estimated 400 people attended the party.

The club was cleared by 5 a.m., and all the people arrested wre booked at the 77th Street Community Police Station jail.
