SAN CLEMENTE (KTLA) -- Nearly 200 giant squid washed up on San Clemente beaches Wednesday night.

Cleanup crews spent Thursday morning removing the carcasses. All of the squid were at least one-foot long.

Experts say the squid are most likely Humboldt squid, also known as jumbo squid. Fisherman say they have appeared in large numbers off the coasts of Orange and San Diego counties in recent days.
