SAN ONOFRE -- A Dana Point surfer spotted two great white sharks in the waters off San Onofre State Beach Tuesday.

Chuck Patterson, a professional "stand-up paddler" for Hobie, says he was 250 yards offshore and shot the video using a go Pro camera on a ten foot pole.

One of the sharks was estimated to be about nine feet long.

"The day before I shot the video, I was surfing with a couple of friends and two sharks circled us for about 15 minutes, Patterson said. "The next day, I decided to go back out at around the same time. Within 15 minutes I spotted a shark."

Patterson says he was by himself and a bit frightened.

"The shark was kind of circling me and I was trying to figure out where it was because it was moving kind of quickly. I was hoping it would come closer to me and it does and then it disappeared. I was always trying to figure out where it was," Patterson told KTLA.

The shark got so close it slapped Patterson's board but it quickly retreated.

Great white sharks are currently migrating to Baja, California, according to experts.

Several shark sightings have been reported up and down the California coast in recent weeks.
