LOS ANGELES -- What a difference a day makes! Approaching low pressure makes the Los Angeles weather do a quick change artist routine.

After weeks of hot weather, the Los Angeles area is expected to see a major cooling trend beginning Monday.

Daytime temperatures will range from the upper 70's in Los Angeles to the lower 90's in the valleys. This afternoon and evening onshore winds will kick up through the mountains, the High Deserts and through the inland valleys. Gusts in the higher terrain could top 30 MPH.

Tomorrow the marine layer is forecast to deepen even further as a cold front dips into Northern California. That means tomorrow morning we'll have thick marine layer clouds pushing well into the inland valleys. Look for partly cloudy skies during the afternoon hours with temperatures continuing to drop across the region. Highs will range from near 70 degrees at the coast, to the upper 80's inland.

Afternoon and evening winds will again be an issue for mountains and for the High Desert valleys.

A cold front will blow through Southern California early Wednesday. Initially this system could provide enough lift to generate drizzle or even some patchy light rain. However, immediately on the back side of the front we should have clearing skies and strong winds developing. The winds will start out northwesterly, gradually shifting to the northeast.

Thursday and Friday northeasterly winds will give us warmer temperatures again.

The red flag fire warning that had been in effect all last week was lifted Sunday. That's good news for firefighters mopping up fires in the Angeles National Forest and Ventura County.
