The pedestrians were hit by an SUV, described as a 2000 Lexus RX300, about 1:40 a.m. Sunday. They had been crossing Third Street at Boylston Street, outside the Tatou nightclub. One victim suffered a fractured leg, and the other a broken kneecap. The SUV sped off westbound on Third Street. A witness chased down the Lexus to get a license plate for police.

The investigation led to Rodriguez, who was arrested at his home.

Police say Rodriguez told them he ran from the crash because he was worried about his immigration status.
