HOLLYWOOD -- A San Leandro woman is under arrest Saturday for DUI and is expected to be charged with vehicular manslaughter after she reported to 911 that she crashed her car but allegedly failed to tell dispatchers she ran down a man in the process.
28 year old Anisha Andrea Hicks was arrested early Saturday morning.
According to law enforcement investigators, Hicks and a female passenger were driving northbound on the Hollywood 101 Freeway just after midnight when she attempted to exit the freeway at Vermont Ave.
Officers say Hicks lost control of her vehicle, crashed through the vegetation, struck a man then crashed into a tree.
Hicks called for help from a nearby gas station.
911 dispatchers confirm that Hicks called and reported that her car struck a tree and was disabled.
Dispatchers say she did not mention striking a man who was badly injured and dying on the side of the road.
CHP officers, believing it was a low priority call, did not arrive at the scene until nearly two hours later.
A person walking on the Vermont Avenue overpass spotted the victim lying on the side of the road and attempted to help him.
The woman's car caught fire. L.A. police and fire responded just after 2:00a.m. and also spotted the victim.
The man, 37 year old Adan Rodriguez, died before paramedics could arrive.
CHP Sgt. Manny Gill confirmed Hicks left the scene of the accident then returned.
"Right now," Gill said, "DUI is a possible factor. Alcohol is a factor."
Hicks is currently being held on $100,000 bail.
