STUDIO CITY -- A man was shot and wounded during an apparent home-invasion robbery attempt in Studio City Tuesday morning.
The incident was reported about 5:45 a.m. near the 3400 block of Longridge Avenue, near the Sherman Oaks border said Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations section.
The suspect entered through the back of the house.
Elijah Brown was inside the home, and said he wasn't about to run.
Brown said the man -- who was wearing a ski mask and looked "like a ninja" -- jumped through his window, pointed a semi-automatic weapon at him and started shooting.
Brown then grabbed his own gun, a 9 mm, and began firing back at the suspect.
"He kept firing and firing, and I didn't know what to do," Brown told KTLA. "I was down to one bullet."
"We went upstairs and locked the door, and just had one bullet to make us or break us," Brown said.
Before leaving, police said the gunman fired one more round from the street and then took off on foot, probably headed for Coldwater Canyon.
Paramedics at the scene treated Brown for a graze wound to the leg.
At this point, police believe the motive was robbery, and that the suspect and victim didn't know each other.
Detectives said there has been police activity at this home in the past related to drugs, but they said there is no evidence of that in this incident.
The home is owned by a couple who now live in the Bay Area and whose son had lived there until his recent death.
