NEW YORK -- A woman and child are in serious condition after being pulled out of the Hudson River.
Paramedics responded to a call at about 11:40am local time of two people in the water near West 70th Street and Riverside Drive on ManhattanÂ’s Upper West Side.
The toddler was rescued by an NYPD's Harbor Patrol boat, while the woman was plucked out by firefighters.
Emergency responders transported the pair to Cornell Hospital where they are being treated.
The 18-month old girl remains in a critical condition and hooked up to a ventilator after suffering from hypothermia, police sources said.
The 34-year old woman is in stable condition.
Authorities believe the mother jumped into the choppy waters in an apparent murder-suicide attempt.
Relatives told police the woman is from India and was depressed.
