HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Several people who ate pot brownies were hospitalized after apparently falling ill in Huntington Beach, authorities said.
Paramedics were responding to Mario's Restaurant around 9 p.m. Friday on an unrelated report of a seizure when they were approached by four or five people, according to Huntington Beach police.
The people complained they were experiencing hallucinations, numbness and shortness of breath.
At least some of the group had medical marijuana cards, and the brownies were apparently bought at a pot dispensary in Los Angeles County.
Huntington Beach Police Lt. Craig Bryant said because the people who complained of illness had medical marijuana cards, the incident was not considered a criminal issue.
According to the National Institues of Health, eating marijuana can produce more unpleasant reactions than inhaling it.
