SAN BERNARDINO -- The father of a 17-year-old boy who was shot and killed near his home in San Bernardino is pleading for the public's help in finding his killer.

Michael Romero says his son, Michael Romero II, was riding a bicycle with a friend in the area of 5th St. and Meridian Ave. around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when a car pulled up and one, possibly two people opened fire.

The teen, an 11th grader at Eisenhower High School in Rialto, was shot three times, Romero said.

His friend was not hurt.

Romero, who is a paraplegic, said his wife heard the gunshots, went outside and found her son lying lifeless on the ground. "She came back, got me on the wheelchair and told me my son was dead," he said.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

"It's just very, very hard on our family right now," Romero said.

Police aren't saying much about the shooting.

The boy's family called the teen a good kid who was not involved in a gang.

He loved riding his skateboard, he loved riding his bike," Romero said.

The family is asking anyone with information to contact the San Bernardino Police Department.

"We ask you to help us out in any which way you can," Romero said.

"We want to catch the people that did this to our son."
